about the practice and our work
What is a naturopathic doctor?
Naturopathic doctors are specialized primary care providers. They are trained and licensed to diagnose and treat conditions and diseases. They have attended an accredited naturopathic medical school where they have completed a postgraduate, 4-year intensive doctoral program, which includes training similar to their MD and DO counterparts. In addition to this, NDs complete ~1500 hours of clinical internship working directly with patients in a primary care setting and are required to pass two national standardized licensing exams in order to become licensed. NDs are also regulated by state-specific licensing bodies and are expected to maintain continuing education credits on an annual basis.
Can you be my primary care doctor?
Dr. Britton is happy to order routine labs and imaging and complete your pap smear, breast exam, and pelvic exam. However, because Dr. Britton is not contracted with any insurance companies, note that labs and imaging ordered may not be covered by insurance and you will pay out of pocket. Therefore it is wise to have your own primary care doctor in network with your insurance so these may be covered.
What kind of treatments do you prescribe?
Dr. Britton uses a wide range of modalities to treat you as a whole person. This may include herbal medicine, supplements, hormones, peptides, or pharmaceutical agents. She will also often address lifestyle factors such as sleep, exercise, diet, and stress management.
What kind of hormones do you prescribe for HRT?
Dr. Britton prescribes bio-identical hormones, which are chemically identical to the hormones your body makes. These hormones are the current recommended standard of care for menopause, can be prescribed to your local pharmacy, and can be covered by insurance.
Do you offer telemedicine?
Yes! Dr. Britton currently sees patients via telemedicine using a HIPAA secure platform for those who are located in the state of California. Alternatively, you may come into the office for your first or follow up visit.
Do you offer telemedicine outside of california?
At this time Dr. Britton only sees patients within California.
Will I need bloodwork?
Very often bloodwork will be ordered in order to check certain levels before initiating treatment or to follow your progress. Lab work will be ordered if it is deemed necessary, and you may also bring your own blood work from another provider to the first appointment.
Do you accept insurance?
Unfortunately at this time the state of California does not cover naturopathic medicine visits. If you have HSA/FSA you likely will be able to use it to cover the cost of your visit. You can check with your insurance company to see if your HSA/FSA will cover naturopathic medicine visits. We can also send you with a superbill after your visit, which you may submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.
